I have never done a lot of french cooking. I watched the movie “Julie & Julia” and immediately bought Julia Child’s cookbook Mastering the Art of French Cooking but then sort of let the notion of actually attempting french cooking intimidate me. Fancy cooking has never been my thing, instead I lean towards meals that are easy and filling. Well I got the urge to finally try a french dish and this one for Coq au Vin (which literally translates into Chicken in Wine) was actually both easy and filling! Tres bien! Well maybe not exactly easy, but definitely easier than the Julia version. For this dish you cook everything separately then together, so the overall process takes a good number of hours. But believe me, it is so worth it. And anytime I get to use my Dutch Oven (I call him Bruce…I don’t know why) is a major plus. But if you don’t have a Dutch Oven, there are several variations to this recipe (slow cooker, healthy, etc.). Give one a try or try them all!
