Good ice cream shops are a dime a dozen these days, but if you’re a fan of frozen treats, than you simply must let me introduce you to Jeni; Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams that is. Jeni’s creates her splendid ice creams using only locally sourced ingredients and their flavors are completely their own. Where else could you find ice creams with corn or sweet potato, and that actually taste amazing? Jeni’s keeps things interesting with seasonal flavors constantly rotating to encourage you, your taste buds, and probably their cooks, to step outside the box.
Wildberry Lavender & Riesling Poached Pear
The best advice I can give anyone on the first trip to Jeni’s, is to mix scoops (also, always get a cone because, duh). I like to mix an intense flavor with one that’s a bit more refreshing. The Wildberry Lavender is a very complex flavor. It’s both fruity and floral and packs quite a punch with each taste from beginning to end. The Riesling Poached Pear Sorbet, on the other hand, really kicks in as the tasting goes on. It’s a layered bite that starts with the pear note before moving to the Riesling. I added sprinkles because they are the sequins of ice cream and I just couldn’t resist myself.

Brambleberry Crisp & Lime Cardamom
The Brambleberry Crisp is one of those flavors that would be great solo, but like I said before, two flavors are always better than one. The berry jam mixes perfectly with the vanilla ice cream. And the pieces of oat crisps sprinkled throughout are a perfect addition. Inspired by a fresh berry pie, it’s simply a perfect scoop. The Lime Cardamom Buttermilk Frozen Yogurt can seem a bit daunting if the thought of an aromatic spice in your ice cream seems a bit, well, off. But trust your taste buds to Jeni; she’ll never do you wrong. This is thicker than your average frozen yogurt, due to the use of buttermilk. The lime is super refreshing, especially after a heavy meal.

Take some splendid ice cream home!
One of my favorite parts about going to Jeni’s, when you find a new favorite flavor (because trust me, they’ll change constantly) you can buy a fresh pint and take it home with you. But don’t worry, if you don’t happen to live near a Jeni’s, you can also order your own pints online! She’s thought of everything hasn’t she?
