(Zimmermann, Kate Spade, Reem Acra)
It never ends. As soon as I’ve made my peace with the end of Summer and I’m ready to begin my Fall season, New York Fashion Week hits to get me excited about the next year’s coming trends and look. This year’s set of shows showed the designers have been thinking way beyond the traditional Spring florals, with mod separates, and slinky slip dresses.
Trend: White Haute
(Narciso Rodriguez, Ralph Lauren, Tadashi Shoji)
By far the biggest trend this year was an indulgence of white. Almost every single designer had 2-3 fully white outfits within their collections. Whether it was crisp whites, creamy colored lace and poplin, or off-white gowns and dresses, we’ll all be dressing in lighter shades come next Spring. Prep your tanning schedules accordingly.

Trund: Suit Up
(Altuzarra, Tibi, Karen Walker)
Feeding off of the 70s trend for this Fall (which was still very visible in the Spring collections), it shouldn’t come as any surprise that designers doubled down with everyone creating their version of the jumpsuit. Most incorporated the current culottes fad (of which I’m not the hugest fan), but the full trouser/high waisted versions may have me suiting up myself next April (spoiler alert!: no, I probably still won’t).

Trend: All in the Mix
{BCBG by Max Azria, Nicole Miller, Tory Burch)
Yes! This was by far my favorite trend, and one I hope continues to grow from season to season. Stylists have been mixing patterns for the last several years now and it seems the designers themselves are starting to finally embrace this fun and quirky trend in a polished and fun way. And as usual, when it comes to prints, we all hail Queen Diane (see below).

Trend: Turn Up the Volume
(Delpozo, Oscar de la Renta, Zac Posen)
Plumped up skirts and silhouettes are always fun to see because they really show how gifted a designer is from a structural and conceptual perspective. While these are typically more high-concept fashion elements that actual ready-to-wear pieces, still expect to see the trend continue to trickle down to the masses (think Tibi and Chicwish) with the continuation of the full midi skirt.

Trend: Block Party
(Prabal Gurung, Adeam, Tracy Reese)
For those who aren’t so into the prints and even (gasp!) mixing and matching prints, the color blocking trend may be more your speed come Spring. While definitely nothing new, this trend was definitely more pronounced with the designers using bold color pairings in ready-to-wear separates.

Trend: Varsity Squad
(Tommy Hilfiger, Coach, Rag & Bone)
This was probably the most surprising trend, coming out of this week’s shows. The use of the varsity jacket (think letterman’s jacket from high school). Numerous designers created short jackets and vests in their collections, but the varsity look was definitely the MVP of the group.
