Alright this week it’s all about the details! This is the area that I’m definitely the worst at. As I’ve been thinking about and imagining this room in all of it’s finished and polished glory, I tend to only think about the larger items like my bedspread, lamps, nightstands, etc. Those smaller staging and decorative details sort of escape me. I know I have a ton of stuff, but I don’t know how to carefully edit it all and pull pieces together without making everything feel cluttered. Luckily, my friend Bethany came over to help me sort through everything, and gave me some tips on figuring out what works best and where. Let’s do this!
Books. Over the years I’ve collected a ton of fashion-themed and pretty coffee table books. These are books that are made to be out and seen, as well as interesting if someone picks it up to flip through. Currently I have them all piled up in a corner of room as sort of a filler, but I know that I probably need to break up that big stack across some of my new shelving and spaces. Bethany helped me mix up book sizes, & coloring so that the books aren’t overwhelming any certain space and they can easily pair with some of my other decorative knick knacks.
Hats. Ahhhhh my hats. I have a ton and I love them all. Keeping them all together in a hat pile isn’t doing anyone any favors, especially my hat. I decided the wall over my dresser would be the perfect place for a hat wall! I also moved over this mirror from another wall to sit in the middle of and anchor the hat wall so that all of the hats sort of flow around the mirror. I am IN LOVE with the results and can’t wait for you to see the finished look. For now, just a little peek.
Photos. One of the biggest pieces I’ve missed from some of my previous iterations of room decor has been all of my old family photos. I have some amazing pictures of my parents and grandparents when they were my age that I just absolutely cherish. It has been killing me to keep them stowed away so while with most things I’m trying to take away, I’m adding my pictures back into the fold! Some of the pictures are pretty big though so I’ll likely need to get a couple reprinted in smaller dimensions.
Vintage trays & Chinoiserie Ginger Jars. So I’ve never met a vintage mirrored tray that I didn’t absolutely need. As a result, I have like 5 or 6 of varying shapes and sizes. I make no apologies. Along with those trays I have a couple of vintage and vintage-looking trinket boxes as well as a number of chinoiserie ginger jars as I’ve shown in a couple of previous ORC posts. The chinoiserie print is one of the inspirational looks for my new room. Watching Bethany help place things together I learned that a lot of figuring out what to put and where is simply a product of trial and error. Symmetry also plays a large role to avoid clutter and create an effortless looking shelf or look.
