My grandmother was quite the fashion-file. There was never a trend she didn’t own two of, and since she never ever got rid of anything, you can imagine how much a little vamp like myself enjoyed playing in her closet and bauble drawer. This dress is my favorite and most meaningful of hers that I have. For my first role in a community theatre play, my grandmother let me wear one of her dresses as my costume, so that my clothing would be authentic to the time period. Legend has it, that when I walked out on stage for the first time she immediately told everyone around her that the actress was wearing her clothes. I think it’s clear I’m an apple that didn’t fall far from that tree .
But while I love this dress, I can’t help but want to slightly tweak it here and there (hello shoulder pads) so that I can wear it more. But before I overhaul this dress, I wanted at least one instance (my acting debut aside) where the dress was worn as originally intended. I’ll do a follow-up post once the dress has been finished, so stay tuned!
