I love pizza. My old roommate, Meggie, and I used to love pizza and champagne at the end of a hard month, week, day. Atlanta has no shortage of great pizza joints for the pizza enthusiast. For years now, there’s been one establishment that is the crown jewel of Atlanta pizza. Antico Pizza Napoletana has been on my Atlanta Eating Bucket List for way too long. Everytime I’d make a plan to go though, something would come up to delay my indulgence. Luckily, this weekend I finally hit pay dirt.
Atlanta’s Perfect Pie
In my mind, the mark of a good and true Neapolitan pizza establishment is its margherita pizza. Antico’s marghertia is, in a word: mind-blowing. The san marzano tomato sauce is slightly sweet and wholly delicious. I took one bite of my pizza, and immediately marched over to the rows of cooks and requested a side of pizza sauce to dip my crust in and to take home with me for future deliciousness. One of the unique aspects of Antico is that the best seats in the house to enjoy your pizza, are actually the few communal tables located in the actual kitchen. There’s another communal table out front and a few seats at the front windows, but the real action is in the kitchen. Antico keeps everything simple from the ambience to their perfect pizza pies. It’s a perfect combination that has served them well. Now I can’t wait for my dad’s next visit to Atlanta because I know he’s going to flip for Antico’s heaviest hitter, the San Gennaro, with it’s spicy meats and peppers. Antico’s was the best pizza I’ve eaten since my trip to Naples.
