Fun fact for ya: The second largest city in the state of Georgia is not Savannah. It’s actually Columbus. A little big town nestled right along the Chattahoochie and Georgia-Alabama border. If you follow us on Instagram (and I mean, why wouldn’t you?) then you know Meggie and I were invited down to Columbus a couple of weekends ago for a zipline adventure that pushed us to our limits and was a ton of fun.
Whitewater Express
At the invitation of Whitewater Express, Meggie and I loaded up the car, said a little prayer, and headed on down I-75 to Columbus. We started bright and early on Saturday to hopefully avoid 1. the rain, and 2. bugging other patrons with our incessant picture-taking. Now truth be told, my mother and I were actually zipline and ropes course facilitators waaaaay back in the day for the Girl Scouts so I wasn’t anywhere near as nervous as my dear, sweet Meggie.
Shopping & Eating
Downtown Columbus is where ALL the action is, specifically along Broadway and it’s many little side streets. It’s a long strip of walkable shops, restaurants, and a surprising number of retro and modern statues. Seriously, they are sort of known for their statues. If you only eat one thing in the city of Columbus, the absolute MUST for this city can be found at Ruth Ann’s Restaurant (slightly off the beaten path) with their to-die-for Capt’n Crunch French Toast.
Picture Perfect
Remember those little side streets I mentioned earlier? While the main strip may be known for it’s abundance of statues and sculptures, the side streets right off the main strip are chalk-full of gorgeous and colorful murals. If you’re a blogger or just love a good Instagram pic, there’s a photo-op around every corner.
A huge THANK YOU to everyone who works at & with Columbus Whitewater and to Columbus Whitewater for sponsoring this post.
& Thank you to Daphne Willis for allowing us the use of her song “Out of the Black” in our video recap.
